Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using The Unknown Project, operated by Wingmate LLC ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement. The Service may contain images of unidentified persons, including post-mortem photographs, which may be disturbing.

3. Account Responsibilities

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
• You must provide accurate information during registration.
• You may not share your account with others or create multiple accounts.
• You are responsible for all activity under your account.

4. Credits and Payments

• The Service uses a credit system for AI-powered analysis features.
• Credits are purchased through Stripe, our payment processor.
• Each analysis consumes 1 credit. Cached (previously analyzed) results are free.
• Credits are non-refundable and non-transferable.
• Credits do not expire.
• We reserve the right to adjust credit pricing with reasonable notice.

5. Data and Content

• The Service cross-references publicly available missing persons data from NamUs and other databases.
• All source data remains the property of its respective owners (NamUs / National Institute of Justice).
• Match results are generated by AI and are not guaranteed to be accurate.
• The Service is a research tool, not a law enforcement system.
• Never contact families or law enforcement based solely on match results from this Service.

6. No Guarantee of Accuracy

AI-generated match scores and analysis are probabilistic assessments, not confirmed identifications. The Service is designed to surface potential leads for further investigation by qualified professionals. We make no warranty that any match result is correct.

7. User Conduct

You agree not to:

• Use the Service to harass, stalk, or harm any person.
• Misrepresent match results as confirmed identifications.
• Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download data from the Service.
• Attempt to circumvent payment or credit requirements.
• Post false, misleading, or abusive comments.
• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

8. Respect for the Data

This Service deals with real people — missing persons and unidentified remains. Users must treat all data with dignity and respect. Inappropriate use of photos, names, or case details may result in account termination.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time for violation of these terms. Unused credits will not be refunded upon termination for cause.

10. Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to incorrect match results, data loss, or service interruptions.

11. Changes to Terms

We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
